59. How the content varies in Business Newspapers and Business Television Media?
Business newspapers and business channels are mediums that concentrate on business news. Both these mediums are the best ways through which one can learn about finance and improve their businesses. However, there are major differences as to how the two mediums decide to engage with their respective audiences. In this blog, we shall see how.
Business Newspapers:
For business newspapers, financial stories are the top
priority. They give a high focus on exclusives. These newspapers usually focus
on large listed companies, and product-led stories are a priority. There is
very limited coverage of CSR activities in the business print media.
Newspapers are often hard-nosed about information. Thus,
we see content related to customer-competition analysis and views by experts.
Solus stories are decreasing day by day with more news on
policy and trends. Accordingly, if a newspaper covers a total of 150 stories in
a day, we see 90 of that news are related to business, 60 focus on corporates
and only 20 stories are solus.
An important characteristic of the business print
newspapers is the focus on the negatives, such as business/ product blip. We
see very few coverages of business successes in newspapers anymore. In India,
much of the coverage for Business Newspapers are led by Mumbai and Delhi by
selected journalists. Hence, reporters influence the overall opinion.
A few business newspapers of India are The Economic
Times, The Financial Express, Business Standard, Mint and The Hindu Business
Line.
Business TV channels:
The Business TV channels in India focus on the potential
or actual stock market impact on the economy. These TV channels are usually the
first ones to broadcast big announcements. They also invite experts that can
discuss government policies in detail.
There is also a limited section of marketing or
advertising in Business TV channels. If any, the TV channels focus on high
impact advertising campaigns. Product launches do not make the headlines
anymore.
A few Business TV channels of India are: CNBC TV 18,
BTVI, Zee Business, ET Now, NDTV Profit.
